Our History
Our Present
One of the marvellous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn't as individuals. – Jean Vanier
Bringing family, friends and loved ones together is one of the core values making Xanadu unique.
Our various community events and communal facilities are a few of the ways we foster this ethos for our residents.
Our Past
The Xanadu homestead was built in 1927 by Mr Findlay in the Cape Dutch style. In 1942 W. W. C. Bezuidenhout bought the farm and became involved in dairy and chicken farming. Between 1938 and 1945 Italian POWs laid out a large garden and built a concrete pergola. Since then the Xanadu Nature Estate has been built around the old farmhouse.
The name ‘Xanadu’ originates from Northern China in r.1260-1294. It became the name of the capital of the Mongol Empire, known for its palaces, gardens and waterways. As years flew by, Xanadu came to represent a place of mystery, splendid luxury and easy living, something our residents can resonate with.
Our Future
Our mission and vision are to create a safe space where our residents can start their journey in life and as they grow, evolve within the estate. Inspired by the culture of community and connection to both its wildlife and residents, Xanadu offers a laid-back, relaxed lifestyle ideal for those yearning for some country air and wholesome family living, thereafter it grants the opportunity to settle down in the peaceful Lifestyle Village. Xanadu Nature Estate offers a full circle in life.
